The Importance Of An Astrological Chart

Astrology has been practiced for thousands of years, beginning in the region of India. Religious groups began calculating the positions of the stars and heavenly bodies. The practice became more sophisticated in the time of Copernicus, when Kings and religious leaders began to rely on the astrological chart to report to them their true nature and the probability of their success or demise in the future.

Also known as a natal chart, the astrological chart is a map of planetary alliances of each individual, based on the exact time and location of birth. It is believed that an astrological chart allows us to see our future and make wiser decisions on our life paths.

Using the individuals’ time and place of birth, a chart is constructed showing the position of each planet, and the relative position of the stars. Most charts are earth-centered, but some astrologers use heliocentric (sun centered) maps.

An astrological chart is either a perfect circle, or square. There are twelve sections in the chart, each representing the astrological houses.

Astrological houses are similar to the zodiac, but not the same. Representing divisions of the sky, the positioning of the houses for an individual is based on exact birth time. The astrological chart is divided by angled lines, producing four quadrants. Within each quadrant are three houses. This is known as a quadrant system, with each portion holding part of a zodiac sign. Each section has three types of houses in it, each known as a succedent house, a cadent house and an angular house, each having their own significance.

A succedent house symbolizes stability and an everlasting quality. Each one determines a quality of the person’s future or personality, some positive and others negative in influence. The horoscope of a succedent house might tell a person to what they are eternally doomed, or perhaps with what good fortune they may be permanently gifted.

Cadent houses are like less successful versions of succedent houses. They reflect, in lesser proportion, beliefs and kin relationships, and aspects that are further away from the person’s “true self”, such as personality traits and destiny.

In the entire astrological chart, the angular house is the most meaningful to the lay person, representing traits most important to the individual, with the cusp, ascendant, Imum Coeli, sun, and descendant signs, all of which must be thoroughly studied and interpreted before an accurate horoscope reading can be done.

The study of astrology is complex and requires years of study for a full understanding and the ability to give accurate interpretations. Once each house is known, every sign is examined. Houses often have hidden meanings which can be understood only by a skilled astrologer. The astrologer must have a comprehensive knowledge of mapping astrological charts. A slight miscalculation could throw off an entire astrological chart, giving a completely different – and inaccurate – reading. A knowledgeable astrologer can provide you with your personal astrological chart and a very interesting reading.
