The Babylonians are sometimes recognized to have originated the practice and science of astrology. Their astrological charts enabled them to forecast the recurrence of seasons and certain astronomical events. So, in the start and for over two thousand years, astrology and astronomy were the same science.
Babylonian astrology was introduced to the Greeks early in the fourth century BCE and, thru the studies of Plato, Aristotle, and others, astrology came to be highly rated as a science. It was shortly welcomed by the Romans ( the Roman names for the zodiacal indications are still used today ) and the Arabs and later spread through the world.
While earliest astrology was employed to bring a feeling of order out of clear chaos, it was shortly employed to forecast weather patterns, primarily for rural purposes. It was ultimately dilated to include forecasts of natural catastrophes, war and other events in the inspiring the human state. Once greatness in these fields was established, it absolutely was a natural evolution for astrology to be used as a means for advising for kings and emperors and, in time, the population at large.
The Zodiac ( which springs from the Greek word meaning circle of animals ) is thought to have developed in traditional Egypt and later adopted by the Babylonians. Early astrologers knew it took 12 lunar cycles ( i.e, months ) for the sun to revisit its original position.
Round the year 2k BCE, Babylonian astrologers assumed the sun, moon, and the 5 planets known at that point ( Jupiter, Mars, Mercury, Saturn, and Venus ) possessed distinct powers. Mars, for instance, seemed to be red and was related to aggression and war. Even if you are not a follower the position of the planets at the precise time of your birth is an indicator of your personality and can identify events that happen to your thru your lifetime, you have actually met someone that does believe. At the least, it’s safe club conversation, a technique to start to know somebody. Or did they actually predict the course of events in your life. While in modern times astrology is seen as new age and not as convincing as sciences like astrophysics or chemistry, at a previous time, it was as credible a science as any other.
Astrology enjoyed a rebirth in the 1930’s with the birth of Britain’s Princess Margaret. The London Sunday-Express ran her astrological profile, and that event was the origin of the modern daily horoscope in the papers. Everybody who’s read a fairly good astrological profile of himself has to confess there are some bizarre coincidences. Are we able to really pretend we’re so informed of the universe that we are able to reject the discipline of astrology? In any case read some Free Astrology to find out.
In the preceding two articles, I have asked you to be concerned about the first two methods of inducing the clairvoyant phenomena, spiritual growth namely, Psychometry, and Crystal-Gazing, respectively. In these cases you have seen how the clairvoyant gets en rapport with the astral plane by means of physical objects, in the case of psychometric clairvoyance; or by means of a shining object, in the case of crystal gazing. Let us now think about the third method of inducing the clairvoyant condition or state, i.e., by means of what may be called Clairvoyant Reverie, in which the clairvoyant gets en rapport with the astral plane by means of psychic states in which the sights, sounds and thoughts of the material and physical plane are shut out of consciousness.
The student of the general topic of clairvoyance will soon be impressed with two facts concerning the production of clairvoyant phenomena, namely, (1) that in the majority of the recorded cases of the investigators the clairvoyant phenomena were obtained as the clairvoyant was in the state of sleep, or at least semi-sleep or drowsiness, the visioning appearing more or less like a vivid dream; and (2) that in the case of the clairvoyant voluntarily entering en rapport with the astral plane, he or she would enter into what seemed to be a kind of trance condition, in a number of cases an absolute unconsciousness of the outside world being manifested. The student, noting these facts, is apt to arrive at the conclusion that all clairvoyance is accompanied by the condition of sleep, or trance, and that no clairvoyant phenomena are possible unless this psychic condition is first obtained. But this is only a half-truth while we shall see in a moment.
In the first place, the student arriving at this conclusion seems to have ignored the fact that the phenomena of psychometry and crystal gazing, respectively, are when true instances of clairvoyance as are those which are manifested in the sleep or trance condition. It is true that a number of psychometrists produce phenomena as they are in a state of psychic quiescence, but, on the other hand, many clairvoyant psychometrists merely concentrate the attention on the object before them, and remain perfectly wide-awake and conscious on the physical plane. Likewise, the average crystal gazer remains perfectly wide-awake and conscious on the physical plane. As the student takes these facts into consideration, he begins to see that the trance condition, and similar psychic states, are straightforwardly a few methods of inducing the en rapport condition for the clairvoyant, and are not inseparably bound up with the phenomena of spiritual development clairvoyance.
As the student progresses, moreover, he will perceive that even in the case of Clairvoyant Reverie, the third method of inducing the astral en rapport condition, the clairvoyant does not always lose consciousness. In the case of many advanced and exceptionally well-developed clairvoyants, no trance or sleep condition is induced. In such cases the clairvoyant merely “shuts out” the outside world of sights, sounds and thoughts, by an effort of trained will, and then concentrates steadily on the phenomena of the astral plane. For that matter, the skilled and advanced occultist is able to function on the astral plane by straightforwardly shifting his consciousness from one plane to another, while the typist shifts from the diminutive letters of the keyboard to the capital letters, by a mere pressure on the shift-key of the typewriter.
